Benefits of Interlock Pavers
Aside from the visual appeal, interlocking stone has some significant benefits. Asphalt and concrete can wear and crack with time. Interlock, however, will maintain it’s appearance for a long time with very little maintenance. Interlocking stone will not crack, shrink or expand. Instead, it will flex with the changes in the ground. Also, paving stones allow water to flow between them helping water from pooling in a particular area.
Professional Interlock Installation
Interlocking stone installation does require experienced professional installers and equipment.
First, it is important that a sufficient depth of ground is excavated and base material installed in order to provide stability and reduce the chances of the stones shifting. The depth of the excavation depends on the end use. A driveway will require more excavation and thicker interlocking stones than a walkway or patio project. Next, the base is compacted and graded and interlocking stones are laid on top. Finally, A high quality polymeric sand is used to fill the joints to reduce the chances of weed growth or insect burrowing.
